Last week marked a milestone occasion for Kingsway Group USA as we welcomed behavioral health subject matter experts from across the United States, coming together at our Michigan HQ for the greater good of patient safety in behavioral healthcare.
Supporting better outcomes in Behavioral Health through personalization and technology
We were overjoyed to see such strong interest and engagement leading up to our first Design Review Panel, and even more so with the discussions that took place during the event with all delegates engaged in insightful debate and conversation around good design’s role in supporting positive patient outcomes in behavioral health. Our unwavering motivation to improve patient safety in behavioral health is clearly one that’s shared throughout the US, and we’re excited to have formed new relationships that will bring about positive change on a wider scale.
A concept initially formed by our UK counterparts and now taken one step further here in the US, our Design Review Panel sees our latest safety innovations placed in front of industry experts from a wide range of backgrounds, giving them the opportunity to critique our designs to the fullest extent. As your partner in patient safety, we feel this step is critical as it means we can continuously improve our offerings to make them the best they can possibly be.
Ligature Resistant solutions discussed during the Design Review Panel
At last week’s Design Review Panel, we had lots to share. The event coincided with the opening of (and took place in) our brand-new showroom allowing us to demonstrate all our ligature-resistant and anti-barricade doorsets first-hand and give delegates the opportunity to get hands-on with our behavioral health doors.
Among the doorsets demonstrated during the Design Review Panel was our our SWING Door Top Monitor (DTM) Alarmed Door System; an anti-barricade doorset with an integrated ligature monitor capable of detecting patient self-harm attempts against the door’s top edge.
Demonstrating how technology can support patient outcomes in behavioral health settings, we then presented our new KOSMOS Smart Monitoring System; the next-generation in ligature monitoring software which integrates seamlessly with our SWING DTM door system. The KOSMOS software is designed to help clinical teams monitor and respond proactively to ligature alarms by providing unique early-warning indicators that a ligature attempt might be about to occur. It also records an audit trail of invaluable data (alarm events, patient activity, staff observations and more) for future review that management teams can use to assess patient care quality, as well as highlight key trends on wards.
While we explored the role of technology in improving patient outcomes, we also discussed the positive impacts that personalization can have too. Our new ligature resistant SHOWER Door System was among the doorsets demonstrated, tested, and discussed when exploring the topic of personalization. Designed to help aid patient recovery journeys by reducing the risk of self harm while safely maintaining patient privacy and dignity when using washroom facilities, our new SHOWER Door System also helps add a personalized touch to patient areas as it can be finished with custom imagery and artwork across the entirety of its ligature-resistant leaf panel.
Our Division 10 items were also closely assessed by the attending delegates, with our new ligature-resistant Wall Mounted Seat drawing particular attention alongside our range of ligature resistant dispensers and grab bars.
