Continuing our Meet the Team blog series, we welcome Derek Morley for a chat to find out more about him and his role as a Project Consultant at Kingsway!
Hi Derek, thanks for joining us today! To begin with, could you tell us a bit about your role as a Kingsway Group Project Consultant?
Hello, I am the Canadian Project Consultant for Kingsway Group. I am responsible for the growth and development in the Canadian market. I work closely with end users – clinical and planning teams, architects and contractors to help them get the right products in their mental and behavioral health facilities.
Which regions do you cover in your role?
I am responsible for Canada – The Great White North!
When did you start working for Kingsway Group and what was it that appealed to you?
I started with Kingsway Group in April 2024. I have been in the door hardware and security business for 3 years prior to joining the team at Kingsway Group. I was most attracted to Kingsway Group because of the products we make, they really make a difference in critical parts of the hospital. With such a niche focus on mental and behavioral health, Kingsway Group is working hard to make these spaces safer while ensuring a non-institutionalized feeling.
What projects have you been involved with recently and what were some of the main aims?
Recently I have been working on a project in British Columbia where we are retrofitting Anti-Barricade Door Systems with a minimum opening requirement of 1200mm.
The contractor and facilities team were stuck in finding a solution that provides them with the required opening width. We were able to work within their existing parameters to provide a solution that increases safety and meets their minimum requirements. Their key requirements are adding an anti-barricade solution to provide a safer place for patients and staff while meeting the minimum opening requirements within their existing facility.
Central to Kingsway Group are our three core values: Perfect Products, Happy Customers, and a Winning Team. Which of these do you feel ties in most closely with you role?
It is hard to pick one of these three values because as a Project Consultant we eat, sleep and breathe these values and it is critical to our success. If I had to pick one, it would be Happy Customers. Being responsive to customer inquiries and working to help them with their challenges drives the other two in my opinion.
Thank you for chatting with us today, Derek! To round off, what are your main interests and pastimes outside of work?
I enjoy spending time at home with my wife in our yard barbequing and I love sports, my main interests are golf, hockey and fishing. When I’m not working I can usually be found doing one of these four things!
