Emergency Psychiatric Assessment, Treatment, and Healing

EmPATH Units: a suitable alternative to Emergency Departments

The traditional Emergency Department environment, often bustling and overstimulating, is ill-suited for individuals in psychiatric crises. Recognizing this, the EmPATH (Emergency Psychiatric Assessment Treatment, and Healing) model has appeared as a transformative approach.

By relocating patients to calming therapeutic spaces designed specifically to support people in moments of mental health crises, EmPATH Units have demonstrated remarkable outcomes: reducing patient agitation and aggression, minimizing the use of involuntary medications and restraints, and facilitating quicker stabilization, with 75% of patients stabilizing and returning home within 24 hours on average.
