Understanding your Facility’s Unique Needs: De-Risking Behavioral Health

Prioritizing safety and security in the design of Behavioral Health facilities can be complex and challenging. Each care environment faces its own unique set of circumstances, influenced by factors like patient demographics, the physical layout, and staff workflows.

At Kingsway Group, we have made it our mission to be Your Partner in Patient Safety. In collaborating with some of the world’s leading behavioral health organizations, we have developed a comprehensive program to deliver peace of mind in high-risk environments and create safer, more therapeutic spaces.

This approach is called our 7-Step De-Risk Process and is compiled of three distinct phases: Relationship, Project Lifecyle, and Aftercare.

In this blog we will explore the Relationship phase in depth and the benefits it brings when it comes to ensuring the optimum safety solutions are implemented for the unique needs of your facility, staff, and clients.

Kingsway Group De-Risk Process: gaining an understanding of your behavioral health facility to develop a de-risking strategy.

Our De-Risk Process beings with Relationship phase. This is where we prioritize understanding your facility’s unique needs through a comprehensive Facility Review. This step leads to Setting the Standard: here we establish best practice standards and develop a clear strategy for the use of ligature-resistant solutions within your facility to minimize risk. And lastly, with a custom approach outlined, we collaborate with you to ensure the perfect fit through Sampling and Approvals.

Step 1 | Facility Review: Professional risk assessment and facility report

Our De-Risk Process beings with a Facility Review, the very first and a crucial step in understanding the unique needs and challenges of your behavioral heath environment.

During this step your Kingsway Project Consultant will visit your facility to conduct a comprehensive review, gaining an understanding of how your facility operates and identifying potential areas of concern in terms of patient and staff safety risks, such as ligature, barricading, or weaponization risks.

After the visit, a full report will be prepared and provided to you free of charge. The report will highlight all areas of concern and include an analysis of the facility, an assessment of all ligature-resistant fittings and fixtures, and detail a best practice approach to minimize risk within your care environment.

Step 2 | Setting the Standard: Establishing best-practice & safety benchmarks

Each behavioral health environment has very distinct challenges that require specific solutions. However, setting the safety benchmark is about more than just meeting industry compliance. It is about establishing the absolute best practice strategy.

This second step in our De-Risk Process gathers input from Capital Projects, Facility Management, Nursing, Security, Patient Safety Managers and more. The goal is to work through each element of the facility risk report and establish a best practice strategy to minimize risk and address areas of concern.

This proactive approach helps maintain consistency in safety practices across your facility and provides a clear breakdown for measuring success over time. At the end of this step, we will have a clear understanding of the what the optimum solutions for your facility are and how they will be integrated.

Step 3 | Sampling & Approvals: Ensuring the perfect fit for your facility

The third critical step in our De-Risk Process is Sampling & Approvals. This step collates all the learnings from the process thus far to provide full-size product samples of your custom solutions to be reviewed by key stakeholders, including nursing staff and patient safety managers.

This step allows for you to conduct your own product trials and to see for yourself why our ligature-resistant solutions have been the preferred choice in over 10,000 projects worldwide.

A collaborative effort drives this step as your Kingsway Project Consultant works with you to make any necessary adjustments to form the perfect fit for your facility’s requirements.
