Internal Doorsets for Acute Care Hospitals
With growing pressures on healthcare systems in the UK and an ongoing shortage of beds in mental health facilities, acute hospitals are increasingly called upon to accommodate patients suffering from ill mental health.
In delivering over 10,000 safety driven projects, we have developed an expertise in creating functional, robust, and durable Complete Door Systems and accessory products that improve safety for both staff and service users in acute care facilities and s136 assessment suites.
Improving safety in Acute Care Hospitals
In the CQC’s 2020 report, “How are people’s mental health needs met in acute hospitals, and how can this be improved?“, it was found that there is often room for improvement in the provision of the mental health component of care, and that resources often limit the staff’s ability to provide the best possible mental health care to patients.
In light of these findings, the same report also stated that every emergency department in acute hospitals should be equipped with a dedicated room to provide a safe and private environment for psychiatric assessments. Psychiatric Liaison Accreditation Network (PLAN) standards suggest that these rooms should be free of ligature risks and should also include a viewing pane.

In 2022, Kingsway Group were approached by Whittington NHS Trust who were looking to implement anti-barricade doors at the general paediatric Ifor Ward to improve safety standards when caring for vulnerable children with mental health challenges.
Following collaborative discussion with Whittington Healthcare, a bespoke door package was designed to create a safer environment with Kingsway’s SWING Anti-Barricade Door Systems selected to provide a non-institutional yet safe solution that would ensure staff are prepared in the event of a barricade scenario.
