What is a Kingsway 'Complete' Door System?
As Your Partner in Patient Safety, we offer the widest range of anti-ligature and anti-barricade Complete Door Systems available for mental health environments. While their benefits are known to those who have specified them in their projects, the question arises, what exactly is a Kingsway ‘Complete’ Door System and what makes them different?
Pre-tested, pre-assembled, and pre-certificated, Kingsway Complete Door Systems are specialist internal anti-ligature doorests designed to minimize the risk of service user self-harm and suicide. They’re developed alongside leading healthcare providers to meet the extensive demands of mental health environments, with recent award-winning projects such as London’s Trinity Building and Dorset’s Kimmeridge Court seeking their benefits.
What makes a Kingsway Group Complete Door System different?
Each Kingsway Complete Door System arrives on site as a pre-assembled unit, complete with all its anti-ligature componentry factory fitted, ready for smooth and efficient installation. We manufacture and test each unit to exacting standards in our state-of-the-art production facility to make assured performance in mental health and challenging environments.
In contrast, traditional doors are generally assembled on site using individual components purchased from several suppliers. In addition to the time spent assembling each door on site (prior to installing them), incompatibility between components can lead to the introduction of avoidable ligature points within high-risk environments.
With a Kingsway Complete Door System, each individual component is purpose-designed to minimize risk, resulting in a coherent and safer assembly with the added benefit of one single point of contact for all elements relating to the doorset: Kingsway Group, helping to simplify project management and providing peace of mind in continued product support post installation.

We place great importance on certification to make sure our products meet the demands of mental health settings. As such, we have attained independent third-party certification to the BM Trada Q-Mark Fire Door Manufacture, Installation, and Maintenance schemes.
Independent third-party certification is the highest form of endorsement a product can achieve and is increasingly specified by architects, contractors, local authorities, facilities managers, and procurement managers. Approved Document B also makes it clear that third-party certification is the preferred route for demonstrating performance of fire doors.
Creating therapeutic spaces
While ultimately our products are designed to prevent loss of life in challenging environments, we believe anti-ligature solutions needn’t come at a cost of compassionate, elegant design.
Our innovative Complete Door Systems offer a welcoming and calming appearance without sacrificing safety or security, contributing towards the creation of therapeutic, safe, and de-institutionalised spaces that promote wellbeing and recovery.
All our Complete Door Systems can be customised to achieve the most suitable look and feel based on the unique requirements of your project.

A study carried out in 2012 into cases of suicide within psychiatric wards in England and Wales found that of the 448 suicides that occurred between 1999-2007, 77% were by hanging. The study highlighted the most common ligature points as doors, hooks, handles, and windows.
The National Confidential Inquiry into Suicide and Safety in Mental Health Annual Report 2022 investigated data on UK suicides between 2009-2019. The report found that 49% of deaths by hanging or strangulation on wards used a door as a ligature point.
