<\/p>\nThe Joondalup Health Campus is the largest health care facility in the northern suburbs of Perth with a total capacity of over 700 beds; 102 of which being specifically for mental health care services. The facility is designed with a number of dedicated wards to accommodate different user groups, including young people aged 16-24, and older adults and patients over the age of 65.<\/p>\n

In order to create a welcoming facility that would best serve those within it, patients and staff were closely involved and consulted throughout the project. From the initial concept phase through to the final design, this building has been designed and built for the people who will be using it. The result is a modern, bright, and therapeutic facility that will contribute to patient recovery journeys while ensuring staff have a positive environment that allows them to provide the best care possible.<\/p>\n
The new Mental Health Service building aims to implement a progressive model of care that lends its focus to recovery. “It’s important that people have access to psychiatry, but they also need access to occupational therapists [and] social workers,”\u00a0<\/em>said Amber-Jade Sanderson, Western Australia’s Minister for Health and Mental Health. With outdoor spaces, communal courtyards, an education suite, a gym, and numerous spaces for occupational therapy and recovery-focused activities, the new facility achieves exactly that.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n To ensure risk is minimized throughout the facility, a number of Kingsway Group’s specialist ligature-resistant and anti-barricade solutions were specified. Our SWING DTM Anti-Barricade Door Systems<\/a><\/span> were selected for the patient bedrooms with electronic access control; ligature-resistant by design with anti-barricade capabilities, SWING doorsets ensure staff can swiftly gain access to a room if a vulnerable patient attempts to prevent entry by barricading their door.<\/p>\n To strengthen the facility’s risk management strategy further, the DTM (Door Top Monitor) Alarms help reduce risk by alerting staff if a ligature is detected against the door’s top edge, allowing for a rapid clinical response in emergency situations.<\/p>\n Working with Joondalup to accommodate patients who require additional support, we provided our SWING doorsets in a wider bespoke specification that allows staff to walk through the doors side-by-side with a patient while supporting them. The SWING doorsets were fitted with our Duralux Secure Vision Panels<\/a><\/span> for bedrooms that required a safe but high-secure observation solution.<\/p>\n The Vision Panels were specified to be operable from the corridor side using the Kingsway Staff Key, ensuring only authorized persons are able to operate the vision panel from the corridor, while ligature-resistant thumb turns were specified on the bedroom side of the Vision Panels, allowing patients to view into the corridor at will.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n For the de-escalation rooms, our SECLUSION Complete Door Systems<\/span><\/a> were selected to provide a highly secure, safe, and robust door solution for areas where service users are required to be temporarily isolated in a safe environment.
